Event space

A private room to hire on Thirsk market square

The room above Tea Time is newly refurbished and completely private from the cafe below. It has its own entrance off the street and its own toilet, so once you are in, the day belongs to you.

There is a main room and a breakout room. The layout changes on request, the whole space holds up to 20, and the kitchen downstairs can feed everybody without anyone leaving the building.

The room

What you are actually hiring

The refurbishment gave the room a separate entrance from the street and its own toilet. That is the whole point of it. An interview panel or a family arriving after a funeral can come in, use the room and leave without walking through anyone's lunch.

Inside there are two spaces. The main room takes the group, and the breakout room takes the phone call, the side conversation, the candidate waiting to be seen, or the person who needs ten minutes away from a party. Tables and chairs get moved to whatever shape the day needs.

Capacity is 20 across both rooms. Small bookings are just as welcome. Plenty of days in here are six people round one table.

Facilities

What is in the room

  • Its own entrance

You come in from the street rather than through the cafe, so a meeting that starts at half eight comes straight up off the street.

  • Its own toilet

Separate facilities for the room, so the queue downstairs is nothing to do with you.

  • A main room and a breakout room

Two spaces, so a group can split off for a call, an interview or a quiet conversation and come back.

  • Layout changed on request

Boardroom, cabaret, rows, or one long table for a party. Tell us how you want it and we will set it that way before you arrive.

  • Free WiFi

The same connection the cafe runs on, free to use.

  • Interactive whiteboard

Fitted in the main room. If you need anything else for presenting, ask us before you book rather than after.

  • Tables and chairs

Enough for 20 across the two rooms, arranged however the day needs them.

  • Catering from the kitchen downstairs

Everything is made in the cafe kitchen and carried up: breakfast, sandwiches, buffets, afternoon tea, a cake if it is that sort of day.

Catering

Food from the kitchen downstairs

The advantage of a room above a working cafe is the stairs. Everything that comes up them was made in the kitchen at 87 Market Place: bacon sandwiches for an early start, soup and toasties at lunch, a buffet down the middle of a table, or afternoon tea on the stands.

Cakes are made to order for birthdays and christenings, and the same kitchen does the sandwiches and scones for a funeral tea. Tell us dietary needs when you book and we will work round them.

How to enquire

Tell us what you are planning

Ringing is still the quickest way, because we can check the date while you are on the line. If it is easier to write it down, the form below asks the few things we need to give you a proper answer.

50 secures the room

Whatever the size of the group. It comes off your bill on the day, so it is not a charge on top: it is the first 50 of what you were going to spend anyway.

  1. Send us the details below
  2. We check the date and email you back
  3. Pay the deposit through the link in that email
  4. The room is yours, and the deposit comes off your bill

If you need to cancel

More than 7 days before:
Refunded in full, or moved to another date
2 to 7 days before:
Half refunded
Under 48 hours, or nobody turns up:
We keep it

Ring us either way. If we can re-let the room we will always try to sort something out, and moving a date is easier than cancelling it.

Which would suit? Tick all that work.

Nothing is charged now. We check the date first, then email you a link for the 50 deposit. Prefer to talk? Ring 01845 523869.

Or email rosa@teatimeyorkshire.co.uk. We answer as soon as we can, which is usually between the breakfast rush and the lunch one.

Questions people ask

Room hire in Thirsk, answered

How many people does the room hold?
Up to 20 across the main room and the breakout room together. There is no minimum, and small groups are welcome. If there are 10 or fewer of you, the breakout room on its own is often the better fit.
Is the room private from the cafe?
Completely. It is a separate space with its own entrance from the street and its own toilet, so the room is yours from the street door in.
Where exactly is it?
Above the cafe at 87 Market Place, on Thirsk market square. You come in through the room's own door rather than the cafe door, and we tell you which one when you book.
Is the room accessible?
The room is upstairs, and we have not had step-free access confirmed, so we are not going to claim it. Ring 01845 523869 before you book if anyone in your group needs it and we will describe the way in properly.
What does it cost to hire the room?
Ring us for a price. What it costs depends on what you need the room for and what food goes with it. The slots are a morning (8:30am to 11:30am), an afternoon (12pm to 4pm) or a full day (8:30am to 4pm), and catering is quoted alongside the room rather than separately.
Is the co-working really free?
Yes. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9am to 4pm, at no charge. Most people buy a coffee and some lunch while they are here, which is what keeps it going, but nobody is watching the till.
Can you cater the room?
Yes, from the cafe kitchen underneath. Breakfast on arrival, sandwiches and soup at lunch, buffets, afternoon tea on the stands, and celebration cakes made to order. Tell us numbers and dietary needs and we will quote.
Can we change the layout?
Yes. Boardroom, rows, cabaret tables or one long table for a party. Say how you want it when you book and it will be set that way before you arrive.
Is there WiFi and a whiteboard?
Free WiFi, and an interactive whiteboard fitted in the main room. If you need anything beyond that for presenting, ask us before you book rather than on the day.
How far ahead should we book?
As soon as you have a date. The room takes one booking at a time, so a phone call is the quickest way to find out if a day is free.
Can we hire it in the evening or at a weekend?
The slots we publish sit inside cafe hours. If you need something outside them, ask and we will tell you what is possible rather than guess on a web page.
Where do people park?
The Market Place is on the doorstep and the first hour is free. Marage Road is about three minutes away and Millgate about four, both pay and display. Monday and Saturday are market days, so the square fills early.
Do you take funeral teas?
Yes, and often. A private room with its own entrance and a kitchen underneath is usually what a family wants after a service. Ring the cafe and we will talk it through.

Come and have a look at it

If you are in Thirsk, put your head round the door and we will show you the room. Otherwise ring 01845 523869 or send an enquiry and tell us the date you have in mind.
