Party and function room hire in Thirsk
Birthdays, baby showers, christenings, anniversaries and funeral teas, in a private room above the cafe on Thirsk market square. Up to 20 people, its own entrance from the street, its own toilet, and every bit of the food made in the kitchen downstairs.
Tell us the date, the numbers and what you want feeding, and we will quote for the day.

The room
Yours for the day, with a door on the street
The room was refurbished with its own entrance from the street and its own toilet. A party arrives, uses the room, makes a noise and leaves without anybody else in the building, which is harder to arrange in the corner of a pub with strangers walking past to the bar.
There is a main room and a breakout room. For a party the breakout room becomes somewhere to park coats and presents, feed a baby, or take five minutes away from thirty people singing. Tables and chairs go wherever you want them: one long table, small tables, or the middle cleared.
Occasions
What people book it for
Birthdays
Milestone ones especially. Afternoon tea on the stands for a 70th, a long table and a buffet for a 40th, or a cake and a room full of people for an eighth.
Baby showers
One of the most common bookings we take. A private room means games, presents and a table of cake, with the door shut and the room yours.
Christenings and naming days
Straight from the church to a room two minutes away, with sandwiches and a cake already laid out and somewhere for the pram.
Anniversaries and engagements
A quiet room, a proper table and food made downstairs. Good for the occasions that want a fuss made at the size a family party actually is.
Retirement and leaving dos
A daytime send-off for a team, with a buffet and a cake, at a time everybody can actually make.
Clubs and groups
Book groups, WI meetings, running clubs, committees and reunions. The room holds up to 20 and the layout changes to suit.
Funeral teas
A private room with its own entrance, and a kitchen underneath that can be ready when the family arrives. More on that below.
Race days
Twenty minutes' walk from Thirsk Racecourse. Breakfast from the kitchen, wifi, the racecard up on the whiteboard, and a private room with its own toilet to get ready in before you go.
Food
Afternoon teas, buffets and a cake
The kitchen is directly underneath the room, so everything on the table came up the stairs. Traditional afternoon tea on the stands is the most popular choice for a shower or a milestone birthday. A buffet down the middle of the table suits a bigger, noisier group.
Cakes are made to order in seven flavours, iced and finished with edible garden flowers and herbs. Tell us dietary needs when you book and we will work round them rather than leave somebody with a plain scone.

Funeral teas
A room for after the service
People need somewhere to sit down and eat something after a funeral, and most families would rather it was not their own front room. A private space with its own entrance means nobody arrives through a busy cafe, and nobody is washing up at the end of it.
We take these bookings regularly. Sandwiches, scones, cake and as much tea as anybody wants, laid out and ready for when you arrive. If the service runs over, the room waits. If the numbers change on the day, that is normal, and we will manage.
Ring 01845 523869 and ask for Rosa. A phone call is easier than a form, and you will get a plain answer about what it costs.
How to book
Tell us the date and the numbers
Ring the cafe and we will check the diary while you are on the line. If you would rather write it down, the contact form and the email address reach the same place. Either way, the more you tell us at the start, the closer the quote will be.
- The date, and roughly what time you want the room
- How many adults and how many children
- The occasion, so we can suggest what usually works
- Afternoon tea, buffet, or something in between
- Whether you want a cake, and what flavour
- Any dietary needs, and anything about access

Questions people ask
Party room hire in Thirsk, answered
- Can I hire a party room in Thirsk for a private function?
- Yes. The room above Tea Time Cafe on Thirsk market place is completely private, with its own entrance from the street and its own toilet. It holds up to 20 people and the layout is set however you want it.
- How many people can come?
- Up to 20 across the main room and the breakout room. Small parties are welcome too. Six people round one table with a cake is a perfectly good booking.
- What does it cost to hire the room for a party?
- For an occasion we quote the room and the catering together, because the two go together. Ring us for a price. What it costs depends on what you need the room for and what food goes with it. Tell us numbers, date and what you want feeding and we will price the day.
- Do you do the food?
- All of it, from the kitchen underneath the room. Afternoon tea on the stands, buffets, sandwiches and scones, and celebration cakes made to order.
- Can you make a cake for the day?
- Yes. Cakes are custom-made in the cafe kitchen, iced and finished with edible garden flowers and herbs, in seven flavours. Give us as much notice as you can and see the celebration cakes page for prices.
- Do you take bookings for funeral teas?
- Yes, often. Ring the cafe with a rough number and the time of the service and we will have everything ready for when people arrive. If the service runs late, the room waits.
- Can we use the room before a day at the races?
- Yes, and we do this fairly often. We're twenty minutes' walk from Thirsk Racecourse. A smaller group fits the breakout room, which is usually free or a small charge, depending on what you need it for. A bigger party can have the whole room too: ring us and we will quote the day around what you want feeding.
- Can we decorate the room?
- Yes, within reason. Bunting, balloons and a table decoration are no trouble at all. Tell us what you are planning and when you would like to get in to set up.
- Is the room accessible?
- The room is upstairs and step-free access is not confirmed, so we are not going to claim it on a web page. Ring 01845 523869 before you book if anyone coming needs step-free access and we will describe the way in properly.
- Where do guests park?
- The Market Place car park is on the doorstep and the first hour is free. Marage Road is about three minutes away and Millgate about four. Monday and Saturday are market days, so the square is busy early.
- How far ahead should I book?
- As soon as you have a date. The room takes one booking at a time, and Saturdays and school holidays go first. A phone call is the quickest way to find out if a day is free.
