Visiting Tea Time in Thirsk
We're at 87 Market Place, right on the square in the centre of Thirsk: deep teal front, gold lettering, you can't miss us. Half an hour on foot from the railway station, or a short taxi, and an easy stop between the Dales and the Moors.

On foot
Walking to the cafe
From Thirsk railway station: about 30 minutes
The station is about a mile and a half west of the square, so allow 25 to 30 minutes on foot, flat all the way, or book a taxi. There is no rank at the station.
From 23 Kirkgate, the World of James Herriot: 4 minutes
Kirkgate runs off the corner of the market square.
From Thirsk Racecourse: 15 minutes
Along Station Road towards the town centre.
The bus stop is in the centre of the square, a minute from our door.
Parking
Where to leave the car
- Marage Road car park: pay and display, about 3 minutes' walk.
- Millgate car park: pay and display, about 4 minutes' walk.
- On-street around the square: limited and time-restricted, workable for shorter visits.
Thirsk market sets up on the square every Monday and Saturday. It brings the town alive, and it means parking is busier on those mornings, so give yourself an extra ten minutes.
Dogs
Bring the dog
Dogs are welcome inside the cafe. There are treats behind the counter, a water bowl by the door, and doggy ice cream on the menu at 2.5.
Accessibility
Step-free where it counts
We have a wheelchair-accessible toilet, and the team will happily move tables to make space. If you have a question about access, ring 01845 523869 before you set off and we'll sort it.
Before you set off
Questions we get asked a lot
Do you take bookings?
- Walk-ins are welcome for breakfast, lunch and cream teas. Afternoon tea is booked in advance, and groups of 6 or more should ring us on 01845 523869 so we can set a table up.
Is the cafe dog friendly?
- Yes. Dogs are welcome inside, there are treats behind the counter, and we sell doggy ice cream at 2.5.
Where can I park in Thirsk?
- The closest car parks are Marage Road and Millgate, both pay and display and both three to four minutes' walk from the cafe. On-street parking around Market Place is limited and time-restricted.
Are you open on market day?
- Yes. Thirsk market runs on Mondays and Saturdays, and they are the best days to visit. The square fills with stalls, so allow a little longer for parking.
