Pumpkins and late tours at Castle Howard
A pumpkin trail through Castle Howard's rooms all October, curator-led tours by candlelight on 23 and 24 October, and a fungi day at the Yorkshire Arboretum next door
Castle Howard is about thirty-five minutes from Thirsk, near Malton. Through October the house hides pumpkins around its rooms for children to find, and the trail comes with an ordinary house and garden ticket.
On the Friday and Saturday at the start of half term the curators lead evening tours by artificial candlelight, to show the rooms as they looked before electric light. The Yorkshire Arboretum, next to the estate, gives a whole Saturday to fungi on 17 October.
