After the 1812 pantomime, Helmsley Arts Centre has three nights in the week before Christmas. Merry and Bright on Tuesday 15 December at 7pm brings together the centre's singers, the 1812 Theatre Company and Youth Theatre and the Ryedale Writers for an evening of theatre, music, poetry and prose. Tickets are 10, or 5 for under-18s.

It's a Wonderful Life is on the screen on Wednesday 16 December at 7.30pm for 5. On Thursday 17 December at 7.30pm, singer-songwriters Rob Heron and Conrad Bird play new solo songs, for 15.

In February the centre runs character design workshops with artist Nicola Hutchinson: ages 8 to 11 all day on Tuesday 9 February (bring a packed lunch), then ages 5 to 7 and 12 to 16 on Wednesday 10 February. On Saturday 13 February at 2.30pm, Little Seeds Music brings Tales from the Lighthouse, a story with live music and puppets for ages 5 and up. Online bookings carry a 1.50 fee.
