Up to twenty people in a private room above the cafe, with the food made in the kitchen underneath and carried up the stairs.
What you get
Your own door off the street, so the party arrives without walking through a cafe full of Saturday shoppers, and your own toilet at the top of them. Two rooms, a main one and a breakout, which were refurbished over the winter of 2025 into the spring of 2026.
The layout is set out before you arrive: boardroom, rows, cabaret groups, or one long table for a party. There is an interactive whiteboard in the main room. Everything to eat comes up from the kitchen downstairs, which is breakfast, sandwiches, buffets, afternoon tea, and a cake if it is that sort of day. The occasions it takes run from christenings to funeral teas.
Who this room is for
It is a daytime room, and that shapes it more than anything else. Three slots: half eight to half eleven, twelve to four, or half eight to four for the whole day. A christening after a morning service, a funeral tea, a milestone birthday lunch, a committee that wants a long table and the tea brought up from downstairs, a team away day with the whiteboard.
If you need it outside those hours, ring and ask, because that is a question we would rather answer properly than guess at on a web page.
One thing to settle before you plan a christening or a funeral tea around it: the room is upstairs, and we have not had step-free access confirmed, so we will not claim it. Ring 01845 523869 and we will describe the way in properly.
How the booking works
Nothing is charged until a person here has said yes. You send the details, we check the date against the diary and email you back, and the payment link comes in that email.
The room and the food are quoted together rather than the room being priced on its own, so what it costs depends on the day you are planning. The deposit is fifty pounds, the same whatever the size of the group, because what it is holding is the date. A party of six holds the date exactly as firmly as a party of twenty, and it comes off your bill when you get there.
If you have to cancel, what we keep slides with the notice you give. More than a week out it comes back in full, or moves to another date. Two to seven days, half. Under forty-eight hours, or if nobody arrives, we keep it, because by then the food is already made and the room is unlikely to be let again. Send us the details and we will tell you what is free.
Two things we are still thinking about
Separately, and nothing to do with the room upstairs: Rosa is looking at a lunch offer around Christmas, and has floated a one-off bistro evening downstairs in the cafe, which would be the first time we opened after four for anything. Both are ideas rather than plans. Neither has a date and neither is booked, so this is an early word and not an announcement.
The same three slots take meetings and interview panels, and a race day party can get ready up there before walking to the course.
