Racing at Thirsk
All sixteen 2027 flat fixtures, April to September, on the course at the edge of town, twenty minutes walk from the market square
Thirsk has staged flat racing since 1855 on a left-handed oval west of the town. The 2027 season runs sixteen fixtures, from the opener on Saturday 17 April to the finale on Monday 13 September, and every date is listed below.
The ones that draw a crowd are worth putting in a diary early: the Thirsk Hunt Cup on 1 May, Irish Day on 15 May, the Sky Bet Sunday Series on 11 July, the Summer Cup on 31 July, Country Music Night on the evening of 13 August, and Ladies' Day on Saturday 4 September. Three Family Days run across the summer, on 23 July, 6 August and 27 August.
A new Premier Enclosure grandstand is due to be finished for the start of the 2027 season, replacing the old Paddock Stand beside the Parade Ring. The racecourse expects tickets, admission and hospitality alike, to go on sale at the start of December 2026.
The course is about twenty minutes walk from our door, or five from the station, which makes it one of the easier racecourses in the country to reach without a car. Full prices, gate times and what to expect are on the racecourse page.
